Below are some FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS about Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy, St Helens Park and Ambarvale.  Parents often have questions to ensure they are choosing the right dance class for their children.  If you have a query that is not answered below, please contact us.

Are the teachers qualified dance teacher?

At Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy, St Helens Park, the safety of our children is our highest priority.  All our staff have Working with children checks (WWC) are qualified and adopt safe dance practices as the safety and health of our students is important to us.  

Principal, Jeanette Briggs has successfully gained Diploma of Dance Teaching and Management and Certificate III in Dance Teaching, Bachelor or Business.  In 2013 she was appointed Director of Ballet Australasia Limited (BAL).  She studied ballet, tap and jazz since the age of 4, passing all my BAL exams, including Snr Tap & Jazz Solo. 

She started to teach dancing when I was 14.  Having also taught for many other dance schools, High Schools and organisations.  I have danced professionally throughout Australia and internationally.  

 

Are the dances and costuming age appropriate?

At Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy we strongly believe in keeping childrens dancing age appropriate.  We are very careful in our song selection choice as well as our costuming and choreography for our dance class. 

I’m not sure which classes my child will like? 

 

Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy offers a week of FREE classes.  During this week your child is able to participate in all the classes that suit their age so that they and you can decide which ones they liked the best.  

Tiny Tots classes classes offers a combination of ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and creative movement.  These classes are the best options for children 6 and under.  Contact us now to book your free trial classes to help you decide which class is best for you

What results can I expect?
 

Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy offers kids dance class for recreational students as well as students who take their dancing more seriously.  Many of its dance students are selective students at Campbelltown Performing Arts High School accepted into the dance program.  We have had a number of our students selected for the NSW Schools Dance Company. Students have been selected for HSC callback for dance, where the top performing dancers in the HSC are acknowledged.  We have had students go onto study dance full time in tertiary education. Students have progressed to tertiary dance education and dance professionally.   Lots have been selected to perform at the Schools Spectacular. 

Our students have performed well at eisteddfods with pleasing results.  Students perform in annual Ballet Australasia exams.  JBDA won 3rd place in BAL Hip Hop exams across the whole of Australian city dance studios.  

How much will it cost?

Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy has an enrolment fee of $40 child or $60 a family (including GST).  If you enrol during your free trial you can enrol for $30 child or $50 a family.  Class fees depend upon how many dance classes children enrol in.  The more dance classes enrolled in, the less each class costs.  Discounts are offered for multiple classes.  There are additional ways to receive discounted fees, including introducing other students to Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy.  

Do I have to Pay for each term up front?
 
This is the preferred method of payment.  However, if this does not suite you at Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy you can pay for your childrens dance class fees each fortnight via autopay.  Term fees are to be paid by Wednesday of Week 1 of term .  

Do I have to pay if my child misses a class? 

 

All classes need to be paid for even if your child is absent.  If your child is hospitalised for the class no payment is required for the period of hospitalisation.  A doctors certificate is required.  

What if my child decides they don't want to dance anymore? will I have to pay until the end of the year?

  

 Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy requires 2 weeks written notice if your child is going to cease dance classes.  They are required to pay for these 2 weeks and are welcome to attend.  They do not have to pay for the remainder of the year.  

How do I pay for my childs lesson?

 

Fees can be paid by either one of these two options:  

1. Pay by the Term 

By the term via bank payment or cash in an envelope handed to your teacher or through the parent portal system.  Families choosing this option make their own term payment via bank deposit or via the parent portal by choosing “Make a payment” in the first week of each term.   

 

If you choose to pay your fees by term, term payment is due by Wednesday Week 1 of each term.

 

OR 

 

2. Autopay fortnightly direct debit from your bank 

Autopay each Thursday fortnight.  Autopay is debited in Week 1,3,5,7 & 9 of each term.  Your fortnightly tuition fee debit from your bank account will be 20% of your term fees.  This is 2 weeks fees.  

3. We do accept Active Kids and Creative Kids Vouchers for class tuition.  Simply email your voucher(s) to us at info@dancejbda.com

Is there any way I can pay less for my child's class fees?

 

We provide discounts for students who take more than one class per week.  Each additional class after the first is discounted  

 

What do they need to wear? 

JBDA Uniform is required for every class and is required to be ordered in your first 4 weeks of classes. Uniform can be purchased from the online shop in your parent portal.

Ballet Uniform: 

  • JBDA leotard available from Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy only or

  • JBDA shorts or leggings and JBDA crop or singlet top. 

  • Pink dance stockings available from JBDA or dance shops.   

  • Shoes:  Pink split sole leather ballets for girls available to order from JBDA or dance shops

  • BOYS - Black dance Tights & tight JBDA T shirt, black Ballet shoes. 

Tap Uniform: 

  • JBDA uniform crop top or singlet top & shorts or leggings

  • Tan dance stockings available from JBDA or dance shops. 

  • Shoes:  Camel taps for girls available to order from JBDA or dance shops. 

  • BOYS - Black dance Tights & tight JBDA T shirt, black tap shoes. 

Jazz Uniform: 

  • JBDA uniform crop top or singlet top & shorts or leggings

  • Tan dance stockings available from JBDA or dance shops. 

  • Shoes:  Camel split sole leather elastic sided available to order from JBDA or dance shops.

  • BOYS - Black dance Tights & tight JBDA T shirt, black split sole leather elastic sided. 

Hip Hop Uniform:

  • JBDA uniform crop top or singlet top & shorts or leggings

  • Black shorts or tracksuit pants

  • Black Jazz Boots or Joggers 

Move it Groovers Pre School Dance Class

  • JBDA uniform leotard and skirt or crop top or singlet top & shorts or leggings

  • Ballet Shoes & Tap Shoes available to order from JBDA or dance shops

  • Tan dance stockings available from JBDA or dance shops

Hair:

  • Neat, pulled back off the face in a ponytail or bun for all classes. 

Boys Uniform

JBDA tank top and black shorts or trackies

Shoes:  You can order new shoes from us or we have a 2nd hand box of shoes you are able to look through to see if we have any shoes available in your childs size.  If you prefer new shoes, Jeanette can order them in for you.  Speak to Jeanette.  They generally arrive by the next week.  New Shoes ordered through Jeanette are approximately $10 a pair cheaper than dance shops.

Hair:

Neat, pulled back off the face in a ponytail or bun for all classes. 

Do you accept Active Kids and Creative Kids Vouchers?

Jeanette Briggs Dance Academy is an approved active and creative kids provider.  Simply email your voucher to us at info@dancejbda.com for processing.
